Privacy screen macbook pro 1610/31/2023 ![]() But when we say warm, we mean just above body temperature. While writing this review (as in, the literal process of writing it), we didn't hear the fans spin up once either, and that took some time. The back of the screen became faintly warm, as did the centre-rear of the base from all kinds of use. Either way, my scene (which used about 6GB in memory) didn't make the fans come on audibly. And again, was all possible on battery, or plugged in. Doing something like changing the time of sunlight produced the effect instantly. Moving around a scene Cinema 4D was somewhat sluggish, but there wasn't really any stuttering. The project played back instantly and perfectly. I opened a Logic Pro project with 1500 instruments in, and it took about 20 seconds for the project to load – after that, scrolling through the whole thing was totally smooth. The machine didn't even get especially warm. This is partly down to the new ProRes acceleration of the chip, and partly its overall power. Running on battery, I edited 8K video in Final Cut Pro in a project with colour correction and up to five videos playing simultaneously at moments, and I'm not sure if a single frame was dropped for live playback, and there's no jerky skipping when scrubbing either. The fascinating thing about the M1 Pro is not just that it's alarming powerful, it's that Apple has also built in some excellent hardware accelerations, and has achieved it all at stunningly low power draw rates – such that you can run intensive apps to push the CPU/GPU capabilities on battery and not see performance drop significantly, unlike a power-eating discrete CPU and GPU combo. This is the maximum spec of the M1 Pro – to go beyond that, you'd need the M1 Max instead. It's an Apple-designed chip, and the version we tested featured the 10-core CPU (8 performance cores and 2 efficiency cores), 32GB of RAM and 16-core GPU. It's obvious from the instant you start using it, because apps open just instantly (you can perhaps guess which company's pro apps were the only ones to require a period of bouncing during our testing). The M1 Pro chip that powers this machine is simply a beast. (Image credit: Future) MacBook Pro 16-inch (2021): power and performance So the new MacBook Pros make a really strong case for their overall value at the very high end. ![]() A 17-inch Dell mobile workstation with an eight-core Intel CPU, 32GB of RAM, 1TB storage and Nvidia A3000 6GB costs £4,168. So a MacBook Pro 16-inch with M1 Max 32-core 64GB, plus 1TB of storage, costs £3,699. Doesn't that make the £600 Apple will charge you seem a bargain… That it's accessible at huge speeds to the GPU as well makes this laptop essentially unique, and enables 3D workloads that simply aren't possible on any other machine. It's hard to make a value judgment on cost of the 64GB of memory on its own terms: it's a huge amount more than you'd pay for simple DDR5 RAM sticks of the same amount, but it doesn't work like regular RAM. And then moving all the way to 32 cores of GPU power costs just another £100 – why wouldn't you, at that point?Īnd if you want the full 64GB of unified memory, that's another £400 on top of everything else we've discussed. Moving to any version of the M1 Max chip adds the 32GB RAM upgrade in automatically, so while switching to the M1 Max with 24-core GPU (for around a 50% performance boost over the M1 Pro) would appear to cost £200, it actually costs £600. ![]() The upgrade to 32GB of RAM from the base 16GB model costs £400, which (as has always been the case with Apple RAM upgrades) seems rather steep… but then, it does function as a very large cache of GPU memory as well as RAM, so it might feel like a snip depending on your needs. You can also choose 2TB, 4TB or 8TB of storage, with the latter costing £2,400 as an upgrade, doubling the price of the laptop on its own. That entry-level price gets you the M1 Pro processor with 10 CPU cores, 16 GPU cores and 16GB unified memory, plus 512GB of storage.įor the same price, you can get the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the same specs, but with 1TB of storage – to upgrade this model to 1TB will cost £200, so that's effectively the price of the extra screen size and battery. Starting from $2,499/£2,399, this laptop is an investment, no question. Medieval graffiti10/31/2023 There are several types of graffiti found in British buildings dating from the Middle Ages. They date from the eighth century BC through to the late Roman period. These include a variety of different types of graffiti, such as abecedaria, kalos inscriptions, insults, marks of ownership, commercial notations, dedications, Christian inscriptions, messages, lists and pictures. Large quantities of graffiti have been found in Athens during excavations by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens nearly 850 were catalogued by Mabel Lang in 1976. In archaeology, the term may or may not include the more common modern sense of an "unauthorized" addition to a building or monument. The term is not usually used for the engraved decoration on small objects such as bones, which make up a large part of the Art of the Upper Paleolithic, but might be used for the engraved images, usually of animals, that are commonly found in caves, though much less well known than the cave paintings of the same period often the two are found in the same caves. A graffito (plural "graffiti"), in an archaeological context, is a deliberate mark made by scratching or engraving on a large surface such as a wall. Moomoo io poki10/31/2023 It is also unclear how much of the heating is from deforming solid rock versus pushing liquid magma around. ![]() There is a continuing debate about where the tidal heat is produced within Io with some observations suggesting that it is primarily in the shallow mantle while others suggest that the heating is broadly distributed. The theme connecting the diverse science to be done at Io is "Follow the Heat." ![]() The current hyperactive geology of Io is of great scientific interest in and of itself but IVO seeks to understand fundamental processes that have implications far beyond this very unusual moon. Io Volcano Observer (IVO) was proposed to the NASA Discovery Program for a third time in July 2019 and was selected for further study in February 2020, but in June 2021, two missions to Venus, DAVINCI+ and VERITAS, were selected instead. The spacecraft is being designed to survive the primary mission with ample margin which could allow various types of extended missions. IVO will also sample the complex mix of ionized and neutral molecules of plasma and gas around Io. The distribution of heat emanating from Io will be measured from polar perspectives that were not seen by the Galileo spacecraft and cannot be observed from Earth. Erupting volcanoes will be observed in sunlight and in darkness to best constrain the lava compositions. The time and location of closest approach are carefully optimized to obtain the clearest observations of Io's induced magnetic field, libration amplitude, and gravity field. During each of these encounters, the spacecraft would approach Io from over its north polar region, make its closest approach to Io near its equator at an altitude between 200 and 500 kilometers, and leave Io over its south polar region. During the remainder of the primary mission, IVO would encounter Io nine times over four years. Following a flyby of Io on its way in, the Io Volcano Observer would execute a Jupiter orbital insertion burn to go into an inclined orbit around Jupiter. The proposed baseline launch would allow a MEGA (Mars-Earth Gravity Assist) trajectory, using a gravity assist at both Mars and Earth to reach Jupiter in August 2033. Mission profile Jupiter, Io, and Europa by Voyager 1 However, IVO and Trident were passed over in the Discovery 15 and 16 selection phase in favor of DAVINCI+ and VERITAS, both missions to Venus. In all cases the Principal Investigator has been Alfred McEwen. In 2020, IVO was selected along with three other Discovery proposals for further study, with one or two expected to be selected to fly. ![]() ![]() IVO was also proposed to NASA's Discovery & Scout Mission Capability Expansion (DSMCE) in 2007 and awarded a concept-study in 2009. The mission was proposed to NASA's Discovery Program by the University of Arizona and Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory in 2010, 2015, and 2019. National Research Council Planetary Science Decadal Survey. IVO is similar to the Io Orbiter concept suggested for the New Frontiers Program by the 2013–2022 U. The IVO data may also improve our understanding of magma oceans and thus the early evolution of the Earth and Moon. These results are expected to have direct implications for the thermal history of Europa and Ganymede as well as provide insights into other tidally heated worlds such as Titan and Enceladus. The main science goals are to understand (A) how and where tidal heat is generated inside Io, (B) how tidal heat is transported to the surface, and (C) how Io is evolving. Io Volcano Observer ( IVO) is a proposed low-cost, outer-planet mission to explore Jupiter's moon Io to understand tidal heating as a fundamental planetary process. I'd say that headline is quite misleading or false. OpenRazer was pretty good for controlling the RGB settings via a GUI. I’m unsure of the Orbweaver or Tartarus, but the Razer mouse I had worked flawlessly under Linux. The Index has been excellent and they just need to get into the mice and keyboard market :D I have the game pad they cancelled and it's good. I wonder if Valve will up their "peripherals" game. While this is encouraging, I personally can't be excited as I wouldn't be able to move away from Windows given my "gadgets" not being fully supported. Also, does SteamVR work in Linux? What about other peripherals like game pads and specialized mice? I alos have a G27 that has unofficial Linux support, but Logitech hasn't made a Linux driver in ages from what I remember. Fran- said:Well, I don't know if Razer gives Linux support for sure (I'll assume a big fat "no"), so I'm outside of that potential jump as I have an Orbweaver and a Tartarus, which I depend on (pretty much) for all my gaming needs I moved away from using keyboards a long time ago. Success begets success, in other words, but there will be benefits even for those who don't plan on using a Steam Deck. We aren't sure if this is possible, and it will likely depend in a large part on just how popular the Steam Deck ends up being. Valve has even said it has a goal of getting the entire Steam library to run on Linux specifically for owners of the Stream Deck. Valve continues to work hard to get as many games as possible within the Steam library compatible with Linux. Now, with Valve and ProtonDB, hundreds of games are playable within Linux at the push of a single button, or with very little tweaking required. It wasn't too long ago that getting even a handful of Windows games playable within Linux was a big hassle, especially if you had to run it through the Wine compatibility layer. Still, having hundreds of Windows titles playable on Linux is a big milestone. ![]() The other six are "borked," most likely due to DRM issues. Many gamers will undoubtedly want to play one or more of the most popular games on Steam, but only three - CSGO, Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2 - rate as green (native) support, with one more ( GTAV) getting a gold rating. ![]() This is a big deal, considering the impending launch of the Steam Deck. Valve's largest hurdle now is protonDB's inability to run many of Steam's top ten most popular titles, of which only 40% of the games are currently playable on Linux. Its growth was slow at first, but as the years went by and ProtonDB matured, it's now become one of the most popular ways to get Windows games to work in Linux either perfectly or nearly flawlessly. ProtonDB was started by Valve several years ago as a new way to get Windows games to automatically work within Linux operating systems by combining several other open-source compatibility tools such as DXVK and Wine together.
